Wipe away a tear that's near...
Hello. It may seem redundant to say this… but right now it seems important to remember to breathe deeply, to pause and to notice the people around us and try to see them through kind eyes.
When stress is high, it’s easy to hurry, or be angry, or sad, or lost in feelings of helplessness… and I know more than ever, it’s really, really important today to try to see people in our family, in our homes, in our work, in our daily errands… and connect.
“How are you today?” Can be a gentle opener.
It’s helpful for me to ask that question of myself. “How am I today?” And if I’m not doing so great, I try to pause and hold my own suffering and sorrow tenderly. And then I try to notice something delightful… a bee in the garden, a dragonfly buzzing ripening oranges, the sound of an owl hooting at night.
There is a natural world that keeps going, thankfully. That has a rhythm and a beauty to dip into for solace and joy.
And sometimes when I am struggling, the best thing for me to do is to reach out. “How are you today?”
Yesterday, I saw three people transform when they were able to help someone else. I could see they were each struggling… one with anger, one with loneliness, one with a sense of helplessness. And then I saw each one do tiny things to help someone else.
The other person improved, even smiled, and the helper did too. We can lift each other up. Even if it feels impossible. The offering of love is miraculous.
Reach out.
May Peace be with you,
Kat~
