For hope, where to go?
There I was hiking on Camelback mountain and we saw an old saguaro. It had been burned or struck by lightening or both and had lived. Green arms reached upwards from a charred trunk. The image was poignant. How to do this… when deeply burned, reach upwards, live?
There is important time, I know, to stop, breathe, feel and ask, “Where am I? How am I?” And if at all possible, to be kind with the answer.
There is important time, I know, for feeling pain, self-compassion, kindness.
There is important time, I know, for reaching upwards, to say, “Why?”
There is important time, I know, to say, “Ouch, that hurt.”
There is important time, I know, to say, “I care.”
There is important time, I know, to say, “I care about you too.”
There is important time, I know, to say, “Whatever.”
And in between those times and woven through them, I know, are moments of beauty that stop the burn, heal the burn, even if for a second, for a half-breath, and those moments bring hope.
And when I feel hope, I raise my arms! Thankful.
And the beautiful thing is… Stopping, breathing, being and then offering myself kindness or someone else kindness is beautiful in and of itself.
Recently, I noticed that when I see someone being kind I feel beautiful inside. Kindness is beautiful. And this means I can find beauty in any moment… by stopping to be kind. And I can start with myself.
There is Beauty in Kindness.
Blessings on your journey, where ever you are. ~ Kat
